THE BLACK FIST 16 – Meet Jimmy Domino

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and I’m glad to see you returned.  Since this is the last WORLD OF HURT strip of 2010, I decided to go out in a big way by introducing a new character to the series.  Meet Jimmy Domino, the right-hand man to the mysterious “Gentleman,” whom Pastor mentioned back in Episode 6 of The Black Fist.  I have to be careful how I write use Jimmy Domino, because he could easily take over the strip.  If Pastor represents the Shaft archetype of Blaxploitation, Jimmy Domino is his Super Fly counterpart.  At least physically, he’s closer to Super Fly, but in terms of his personality, Jimmy Domino is more like Youngblood Priest’s personal Judas, Eddie: hedonistic and quick to put a knife in your back.    Speaking of Shaft, I based the Rolls-Royce driver, “D.B.” on Bumpy Jonas’ henchman, “Willy,” who was played by Drew Bundini Brown in Shaft and Shaft’s Big Score!

Next, I’d like to give a hearty congratulations to two sets of long-time WORLD OF HURT boosters who both had their first kids this month.  Kate and Aaron from Virginia had a son named Monroe Edwin, who was born December 27th and Doug G. and his wife, Carolina, welcomed young Solomon Milton into the world today.  Very exciting times in both households, and it has me thinking about a new line of WORLD OF HURT onesies…

On a final note, it was a really great year for WORLD OF HURT and I thank you all for being a part of it.  I’ll try to have a blog entry this Friday, but if not, I’ll see you back here in 2011.
